720p is better for fast movement, like most video games and most sports. This is just one reason why most PS3 games have a native resolution of 720p. This is also why channels in the ESPN & ABC family (or probably any other Disney owned channel) run in 720p HD instead of 1080 HD like other channels do.
1080i and 1080p are better for slow movement, so its better suited for movies.
Check to see if your TV supports 1080i also because some of them do. Make sure to select 1080i in the Display Settings as one of your supported resolutions if it does support 1080i so the PS3 upscales and downscales your DVD and Blu-Ray movies respectively to 1080i.
thats great man because unlike what first guy said you have to have a 50″ HDTV to even be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 and most games only go to 720 will be fine
